Indoor Games for Kids – With remote learning and social distancing being the new norm, it can be especially challenging for parents to keep their little ones engaged at home throughout the day. Increased screen time and a sedentary lifestyle for kids can cause them harm in the long run, which is why as parents, you need to come up with fun alternative indoor games for kids, that not only keep them engaged but maybe teach them something new too!
Customized Bowling Alley: You read it right! Make a customized bowling alley for your kids and involve them in the creation of the same. This is not only a fun game idea for kids, but is also a great crafting activity for them. You will need 10 empty bottles, spray paint, tape, a marker, and tennis or a plastic ball. In an open space in your home, line the tape in order to make a bowling alley. Peel off the wrappers of the bottles and spray paint them in the color of your kid’s choice. Arrange this in any way, following conventional bowling pins or make a pyramid. Make this a fun competitive activity with your kids, or other members of the house, and be certain that your child will be engaged for hours!
Pictionary All The Way: Want to build up your child’s analytical skills? Pictionary is a great way to keep them engaged and will also help build some useful skills! It requires one player to draw an image of the word without giving it away explicitly, and the other person to guess it. You will require paper, a board and some markers. Write names of random things or objects you want to guess on chits of paper and shuffle them in a bowl. Players alternatively pick up a chit and draw for another player to guess. You can build up the fun by making up teams and making it a fun competition.
Obstacle Race At Home: Give your child an Olympic experience within the comforts of your own home by setting up an obstacle race. You will need an open space and you just need to use the furniture you already have at home as your ‘obstacles’. Additionally, blankets, chairs, hula hoops can be used, but you can customize and use whatever you want to make it more fun or challenging. Make sure to child-proof the area before actually setting up the course. You can place these objects in any way you like, and set it up in a way that they have to go through a different way to cross each object! This fun, customizable game is fun for any age group and can be made to fit any space. You can make it harder and set a time limit for your older kids!
Puzzles For The Win: Puzzles are a great way to expedite your child’s brain development. With fun puzzles with vibrant colors and engaging themes available in the market, it is an easy way to keep them engaged for hours on end. Word puzzles are great for older kids to help them increase their vocabulary or 3D puzzles for slightly younger kids. Make this a competitive affair by keeping small treats or toys as prizes to finish the puzzles on time!
Build A Blanket Fort: Building a blanket fort is a time and tested method that surely brings enjoyment to kids and keeps them engaged in designing their dream fort! Arranging materials for this activity is fairly easy as this activity solely uses materials available at home, like blankets, pillows, chairs etc. Your kids can customize the height and size of their blanket fort as they please. For a simple fort, you can stack two pillows on both sides and throw a blanket on top, for a more tent-like aesthetic, your kids can use sticks to prop up the blanket, or just rest a blanket against a table or a couple of chairs, and there you have it- your kid’s own cocoon!
