5 Minute Crafts Your Teen Will Love

Teens may not be the first age group that comes to mind when suggesting crafts. We often think that art and crafts should only be encouraged among the young, but we are highly mistaken. With emerging research on the therapeutic effects of coloring on adult anxiety, letting your teen explore their creative self can be beneficial for their creative intelligence and mental health. Need a head-start on ideas? Try these 5-minute crafts for teenagers we know they will love! 

Try and Dye- Make trendy clothes at home! Your 15-year-old will love this activity. Jazz up your old white T-shirts into something colorful and trendy by trying this simple technique. Twist and tie the shirts, secure with rubber bands, and use dyes of your choice. Let the twisted colors sit in the dyes for 6-8 hours, and then unwrap it, giving it a wash before you try it on. There you have it, your own trendy clothes made at home!  Making trendy clothes at home is surely a great activity for 15-year-olds to do at home! 

DIY Bath Bombs- Self-care, is an important virtue we ought to instill at home, especially in teenagers. A great way to initiate an atmosphere of self-care is by starting small- skincare. This 5-minute craft for teenagers is not only a great initiation into self-care but also a fun chemistry lesson!

  •  This uses mainly kitchen ingredients. Start off by mixing some baking soda, cream of tartar, citric acid, and cornstarch in a bowl.
  •  In another small bowl, mix some coconut oil, polysorbate 80, and any essential oil of your choice. 
  • Mix together with your hands to make sure there are no lumps. 
  • Make it interesting by using some activated charcoal and mix well. 
  • Take a bath bomb mold and fill each side with the mixture. 
  • If your mixture is too dry and is not molding well, you can use a little bit of rubbing alcohol to make it moist. 
  • Leave molds to harden for 24-48 hours depending on your climate and you’re done! 

Painted Seashell Necklace- A piece of quirky jewelry made at home? Your teen will love this! It is also a great way to incorporate more sustainable practices into their daily lives. Just grab a couple of seashells and make sure you thoroughly clean them and let them dry. Then, grab some paint, glitter, stickers….whatever your teen wants, and decorate this shell! Once that is done, they can get a piece of string, and a wire cutter to make tiny holes in the shells to pass the string. Arrange the shells and you have a fine piece of jewelry at home! 

Seashell Candles- Yes, we have another seashell craft for you! This time for your very own homemade candle.  

  • Just get a bunch of seashells, wicks, hot glue and scissors, and candle wax for this easy 5 minute crafts for teenagers. 
  • Melt the candle wax for 90 seconds. Be careful the dish is really hot.
  • Hot glue the wick to your seashell. We recommend using a large seashell for candles. 
  • Next pour in your hot wax and let it sit for 2-4 hours.
  • There you have it, sustainable candles made at home! 

Yarn Painting- Move over watercolors, there is a new player in town! Playing with yarn really requires a lot of concentration and finger dexterity and is a great project for teens. 

  • You need some contact paper, yarn, scissors, and some tape.
  • Tape the contact paper, sticky side up on a piece of A4 paper. 
  • Cut out the yarn in any size you want.
  • You can stick it to follow a particular pattern and the yarn doesn’t even need glue to stick on the paper! 
  • Your teen can play around with fun patterns or figures to make a unique art piece! 

Sparkle Keychain- Jazz up the regular keychain to your teen’s wardrobe or bi-cycle with this
fun activity! 

  • You need some plastic photo keychains, glitter, confetti, and charms
  • Start off by removing the plastic photo plate and filling it in with charms, confetti, or glitter.
  • Place the plastic photo plate back on the keychain, and now you can decorate the outside. You can use paint, or even stick a bow on the keychain, or add pom poms
  • Let the decorations dry and you have your own DIY keychains! 

Sparkling Vinyl Bracelets- Your teen can make their own trendy bracelets at home! A great 5-minute craft for teenagers, they can make their own vibrant bracelets at home in little to no time. 

  • You need ¼” and ⅜” inch vinyl tubing, glitter, tape, scissors, and a funnel. 
  • Start off by measuring your teen’s wrist and make sure that the bangle can come off and on easily without hurting their wrist.
  • Use a small funnel to fill the tube with the glitter of your choice. 
  • Make sure to tape off one end of the tube as you fill it with glitter.
  • Use the ⅜” inch tubing to secure the ends of the ¼” tubing that you have filled with glitter and there you have it! 

The Emoji Mason Jars- This will surely be a fun addition to your teen’s bedroom! You can repurpose old mason jars or baby food jars for this 5-minute craft for teenagers. Teens are obsessed with texting and sending stickers and emojis, why not extend this to their home decor? 

  • You need some old glass jars or mason jars, yellow paint to mimic the WhatsApp emojis, and other colors depending on the expression, black marker, and paintbrush
  • Start off with pouring yellow paint inside the jars and shaking it till the entire jar is covered with paint inside and let it dry. 
  • Next, decorate each jar with your favourite emojis by tracing the expressions out with a black marker and color them.
  • You can use them as pen stands, or key holders or keep them as they are!
