5 Interesting Activities Your Teens Can Do Over Zoom

Zoom school has had quite a significant effect on our children when it comes to their social and personal life. With the monotony of looking at a screen and the drudgery of homeschooling, teens have been deprived of any form of social interaction or one on one time with their friends. We’re here to support you to break this cycle of monotony and introduce some fun activities for your teens: we too want your teens to be engaged and excited about Zoom when it’s time for school!

The Trendy Fallon Game-This game is inspired by the popular show host Jimmy Fallon on his Today Show. This game can be easily played with a zoom modification. The modification is that each person who joins the Zoom meeting has to bring the ‘weirdest’ thing that they find in their house and avoid showing it on the camera. The game will go on as each person tries to describe their object either by lying or telling the truth, which each participant can decide. Everyone on the meeting can either react with a thumbs up or thumbs down sign if they think they are telling the truth or lying. The person shows their object and people can keep score on how many people could correctly identify whether they were telling the truth or lying.

The Mafia Game- This Zoom game is great for teens obsessed with crime and mystery. This game has mafia, civilians, a sheriff, and a doctor. The host gets to randomly select the participants’ role with whatever method they choose, although, we recommend doing it with a deck of cards to make it easier. Use private messaging to inform each participant of their role, and then start the game. The host mutes everyone so that isn’t any other sound except the host’s voice, while every participant privately messages their answer to you, like who the mafia want to kill, who the sheriff arrest, who the doctor saves, etc. After this is done, the host can unmute the participants and the truth can finally be revealed!

Charades With A Twist- This is a great game to engage your teens in a classic game of charades but with an interesting twist. One person is termed as ‘it’, while everyone else acts out a word. You can let the group know the word by messaging each participant individually other than the tagged person. Once the person tagged with ‘it’ has guessed you can move on to the next person. You can also make it competitive by timing how much time it takes each person individually to guess a word, or you can also divide them into teams. If team A’s participant guesses within a minute, they get to go again, if not,  the word passes on to team B.

Pictionary-This game is a classic and appeals to all ages. This requires you to use the drawing feature on Zoom. This requires a bit of setup and is ideally played with a smaller number of people. Go into your screen share option at the bottom of the screen in the Zoom app, select whiteboard, and share. The place where you have your green bar with your ID, hover over ut and it will open up to a drop-down menu. Click on the option that says ‘more’, underneath it and then disable ‘attendee annotation’ so that no one else can draw. You can also select the option of ‘show names of annotators’ to still allow others to draw but you will know their names, and who is drawing what.

Two Truths and A Lie- A simple game for all ages, this game is quite popular among teens. The host does not participate, or participants can take turns being hosts. Every participant privately messages the host a secret fact about themselves, and everyone has to vote over who they think it belongs to. The teens can have fun fooling each other. If your teen is joining a new school or class, this is a great ice-breaker and can help your teen bond with their friends!
