Get Underlined– Get Underlined is an online community that encourages teens all over the world to write and discuss their work online. This site regularly runs contests and hosts online classes from established writers and authors who engage in an online chat with budding writers and give them essential tips and insights to better their writing. Additionally, teens can also post their work on the site and receive feedback from fellow writers through reactions, ratings, and discussions. British Council- The British Council has a dedicated creative writing course for teenagers from 11-14 years of age that helps young writers develop essential creative writing skills to help better their art. This course touches upon essential skills needed for creative writing like- developing a unique perspective, ingenious thinking, clarity of thoughts, improved artistic expression, and developing a critical eye for different writing styles. They offer 6 weeks of online weekend classes- 18 hours in total and the fees are INR 6,500 per participant.
Commonwealth Education Trust– This is a great website to learn some necessary skills with regard to creative writing for teens. It comes with a lot of online resources like video lectures, online readings, peer reviews, and featured authors and writers to help provide your teen with a holistic experience and learning. Your teen will also explore the different cultural perspectives of literary works, critically analyze writing and writing styles and become more comfortable with handling and building narratives, write dialogue, establish themes, plots, etc.
Write Now- This is a writing program initiative by Scholastic India, in collaboration with the Quill Writer’s Club to provide a platform for writers who have a gift for telling stories, and teens have to go through a two-stage selection process, out of which this program selects the most talented writers. The selected applicants go through an 8-day mentoring program wherein the writers have to present a short story at the end of the program. This program is available for writers of any age and is hosted by Hemant Kumar, Alisha Attarwala, Ruchira Mittal, and Swati Rajgarhia. The duration of this course is 16 hours in total, registration fees are INR 395, and mentorship fees are INR 11, 000 if selected.Young Author Program- Led by Neelima Vinod, this program is certified by Pothi.com, a self-publishing company based out of Bangalore. Open to the age group between 8-16 years, the participants are enrolled in a workshop where they are given the necessary guidance to work on a story and submit it to their mentor on the last day. Some stories are selected by the program and published in the Young Writer’s Anthology. This program is taught across 4 days.
Bound India- This website offers intensive writing workshops, guidance, and mentorship for young budding teen writers. They also offer other services like editing to writers. Their workshop is an intensive hands-on workshop designed for teens and tweens which helps them get necessary skills related to creative writing, poetry, comic strips, and also gives out summer reading lists. This program is hosted by Tara Khandelwal, Michelle D’costa, and Aishwarya Javalgekar.
