Wellness has now become a part of our daily vocabulary – an entire industry even burst from the concept! We mustn’t overlook kids’ needs when it comes to thinking about wellness. It’s beneficial to add wellness activities to your kid’s daily routine and make them have habits. These habits compound and create healthier lifestyles in the long term.
In the middle of a school day, it’s great fun to take a break and shake it out. How you feel physically impacts how you feel mentally. An energiser is something that helps break the lull. Apart from being educational and a fine motor activity for kids, gardening can also be very therapeutic. It’s good to set aside gardening time” in a week and let the young ones tend to plants. A great way to end the day, board games – from Scrabble to Cleudo to Sequence – make for a good family bonding activity. Apart from being a break from the screen, board games teach kids several skills, like hand-eye coordination, simple math, and strategizing. And did we mention – it’s a lot of fun!
Sensory play is a wonderful thing for kids. It’s very soothing, and let’s kids explore through their senses. It’s also known to be great for brain development by creating neural pathways that help children learn. Although sensory play is thought to be for preschoolers, children of all ages can indulge in it, and reap its benefits. From Play Doh to coloured sand to finger painting, the list of sensory activities for kids is endless!
Our physical bodies store a tremendous amount of stress. When we stretch, we allow a release for some of that tension. The benefits of a simple stretch are not given enough importance! It’s an essential addition to the daily routine, especially with the long hours children spend in front of the screen. It’s not too complex, doesn’t take too much time, and feels really really good!
A long walk is highly underrated. Walking creates a certain rhythm that puts your mind into a meditative state. It can be a physical channel for frustrations, it helps clear the mind, and helps you think better. Allow kids, when they are old enough, the freedom to go on long walks by themselves. This gives them a sense of independence, as well as physical space. Apart from being a form of exercise, walking is known to stimulate the mind; it’s an easy activity to add to the daily routine.
