When to introduce: If your baby is ready to sit up in a high chair without support, this means your baby is also ready to be introduced to his/her first sippy cup — or at least, ready to learn how to drink from either an open cup or a sippy cup. Not only will this teach your child that liquids can come from a source other than the breast or a bottle, but it will also help them transition away from the bottle once it’s time to wean.
Advantages of a Sippy Cup: Sippy cups are a big plus for busy parents. One of the biggest advantages is that they are practically spill-proof — which means less mess and less laundry. Plus, they are portable, so your little one can carry one in the car, in the stroller and at day care.
Which brand I went for: I had introduced a sippy cup to my baby when he was 6 months old, exactly when I started with his solid journey, & I went for none other than Philips Avent because my baby was already taking milk from Philips Avent milk bottles. Hence, I was more familiar with this brand and didn’t want to experiment with any other brand. It’s been a good experience so far.
My son has already learnt how to use it and keeps sipping whenever thirsty during the day while playing. I wash and sterilize the bottle only once a day and we are doing pretty good so far.
