DIY Projects for your Teen – Is your teen spending their time bingeing on Netflix, hooked to the screen, spending time attending Zoom school? Unfortunately, these are now the inevitable facts of any teenager’s life as they try to navigate their lives through the pandemic. How about getting their hands dirty and making use of their skills by involving them in these super easy DIY Projects around the house?
Mood Board- One of the easiest ways to get your teens off their Instagram or Snapchat is to have them recreate it physically. Teens often get too fixated on the virtual world and lose a sense of reality. Although we can’t blame them entirely as the situation outside is risky, it would be nice to have them focus somewhere beyond their online world. A great way to have them engaged and off their phone is to have them recreate their Instagram feed on a mood board. They can take inspiration from their favorite influencer and recreate their feed with the help of printed images that they can arrange on their mood board. They can also create a vision board where you can ask them to visually represent their goals using images on the board. A great exercise and an insightful project, you have to try this at home!
D-I-Tie- Tie-dye has been trending on all social media pages since the beginning of 2020 and continues to dominate all the designs and patterns of apparel this season. Wouldn’t it be cool to recreate what your kid’s favorite Youtuber is wearing at home? A great way to get your teen’s hand dirty and getting a trendy piece of clothing at the end, it is a win-win! Get a set of tie-dye colors before you start this project. Pre-wash your garments, and mix your dyes. Soak your garments in water for a while and then fold them with elastic in any way you like. Apply the die, let it sit, rinse and dry. In a matter of a day, your teen has trending apparel!
D-I-Y Makeup Brush Holder- As teenagers grow older and they begin to emulate their favorite YouTubers and influencers, they add to their makeup kit too. Whether they are brushes or pencils, your teenager has them! How about repurposing an old candle jar and jazzing it up to display their prized possessions! Start with some modge podge, a paintbrush, and a lot of sparkles. Swirl the modge podge with the brush, inside the jar. Make sure you have covered the entirety of the jar inside and haven’t left a spot. Then comes the fun part. Empty the sparkles into the jar. For this make sure that you add the sparkles, close the jar with its original lid so that the sparkle reaches everywhere and is fully covered and drenched in them. Fill the jar up with pellets so as to fill it, we recommend getting these pellets. Fill in your brushes and pencils and place it, and there you have it a masterpiece made at home.
Roller Coaster Make Over- Coloring books are not just for kids, even teens can find them fun. In fact, coloring books are also marketed towards adults as great options to relieve stress. Simple coloring can help get their mind off and reduce anxiety and stress in teens. If you think coloring can get boring for your teen, how using their coloring masterpiece and make coasters out of it? Cut out 3.5 inches squares from solid core cardboard and cut out 3 inches squares from their coloring pages and apply modge podge to the back and apply that to the boards. Paint whatever is left on the board with your favorite acrylic colors. Finish with a coat of modge podge over the whole homemade coaster and let it dry! A perfect fixture on your coffee table, this made-at-home project is sure to engross your teen!
