3 Gluten-Free Cakes You Can Bake With Your Kids

Making gluten-free cakes is easy and will help your kids look forward to mealtimes. The problem with including too much gluten in your diet is that it can make your kids feel sluggish and lazy during school time. While you cannot totally cut gluten from your kid’s diet, you can make a conscious choice of cutting it down whenever necessary, and starting with desserts is a wonderful place to start! You can make gluten-free cakes as a breakfast snack or post-dinner sweet indulgence- whatever the occasion, rest assured it will be without the carbs and the unnecessary calories. These recipes are easy to make, so feel free to include your kids in this! 

Vanilla Cake- Try this classic vanilla gluten-free cake, for a light and airy dessert option for your kids. 

  • Preheat your oven at about 200 degrees and grease your baking tins. 
  • Mix in the dry ingredients together. Sift in 2 and ⅔ cups of gluten-free flour, 2 cups of sugar, 1 tbsp of baking powder, and gently mix with a whisk. 
  • Then, try creating a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and add a cup of water, 1 large tablespoon of vanilla bean paste, 1 tbsp of sour cream, 2 large eggs, and half a cup of vegetable oil. 
  • Mix all these ingredients till they combine! 
  • Let this batter sit for 30 minutes. 
  • Then, bake this in your oven for about 40 minutes, and you have an easy vanilla cake ready! 

Lemon Cupcakes- Shy away from the usual vanilla and chocolate flavours, by trying this elegant lemon cupcake recipe, gluten-free of course! 

  • Start by pre-heating the oven to 200 degrees. 
  • Line and grease your baking tins. 
  • Sift in 1 and ½ cups of gluten-free flour, 1 cup of sugar, 2 tsp of baking powder, ⅓ tsp of baking soda, and mix. 
  • In a separate bowl, add the wet ingredients. Mix 2 eggs, ⅓ cup of flavorless oil, tbsp of white vinegar or lemon juice, 1 tsp of vanilla extract and mix well. 
  • Pour the dry mix in shifts to the wet ingredients and mix well! 
  • Then, add ½ a cup of full-fat milk to the ingredients and mix. 
  • Bake this for 40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. 

Chocolate Cake- A classic chocolate cake for dessert with half the calories? A win-win for both parents and kids during mealtime! 

  • Preheat your oven to around 180 degrees while you prepare the cake batter. 
  • In a large bowl, add dry ingredients. Sift 285 grams of gluten-free flour, 320 grams of sugar, 65 grams of bitter cocoa powder, 6 grams of baking powder, and 8 grams of baking soda. Mix well and add a pinch of salt. 
  • In a separate bowl, add 2 large eggs, 260 grams of milk, 110 grams of oil, 4 grams of vanilla. Mix well and then finish by adding 150 grams of boiling water. 
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet ones in batches and make sure to incorporate them well! 
  • Bake for 40 minutes and enjoy!
