5 Upcoming Young Adult Book Releases We’re Awaiting

Oh, to be a teen again! New experiences, new friends, raging hormones, new crushes- teens go through a lot! And to be a teenager during the pandemic- that is an experience. Young Adult books are great ways for your teens to escape to places where they feel more comfortable as they can relate with the characters in the book. Some new YA books these days are also self-help books or autobiographies that contain real-life lessons for your teens to overcome any battle that they are going through. Teenagers sometimes feel that they are singled out in this crazy adolescent adventure, but books have a way to relate to every teen as each of them has their unique interpretations. Young Adult books are a great tool that your teen can use in their confusing transition from childhood to teenagerhood as it reminds them that this universal experience can be tough and that it is okay to have your own unique take on it. So, parents, here are some new YA book releases we are looking forward to this year! 

Ashes Of Gold- This book is deemed to be the sequel to the celebrated novel called Wings of Ebony. This series by J. Elle is one of the most anticipated new YA book releases this year! Rue, the main character, is mysteriously trapped in a basement with her magical abilities gone along with her allies. However, how she got into the basement remains a mystery to her. With a betrayal brewing in the mist and new challenges coming Rue’s way, this second installment will be a wild ride! Rue in her quest to get her magic back from the Chancellor will be reminded of the fact that girls from the East Row can never give up! All this as she tried to make sense of her half-god half-human existence, this thrilling premise promises enough punch to keep your teens engaged! 

The Bone Spindle- This new YA book written by Leslie Vedder takes on an incredibly old tale. Not Beauty and the Beast, but this story retells the story of Sleeping Beauty with plot twists that will surely keep your teen on the edge. A refreshing alternative to the bland princess stories we are tired of seeing, this is truly a bold retelling of the classic. This book is full of topsy-turvy adventures, the dangers of dark magic, romance, and action making it one of the best new YA book releases. It tells the story of FI who a bookworm and a treasure hunter and Shane is the brave warrior girl. On one of their adventures together, FI pricks her finger on a spindle and instantly meets the spirit of Briar Rose who had been awaiting the breaking of her curse and has also waited a hundred years for a kiss to rescue her from her deadening slumber. What brews after is only a privilege for the readers! 

A Thousand Steps Into The Night- A fantasy novel that takes a deep dive into ancient Japanese Culture, deals with enchanting sceneries and magical monsters and the gods-this book is a blessing for all fantasy fans among teens. This makes it one of the most anticipated new YA book releases this 2022! The vivid imagery of a mystical ancient land called Awara, and the engaging story of the main character Miuko will enthrall the readers. Miuko is different from her fantastical surroundings, ordinary if we were to call her that, living plainly as an innkeeper’s daughter. Her life transforms when she is cursed by a demon and turns into one with a deadly touch. Horrified, Miuko goes on a quest and must find a way to go back to her normal life, but will she? 

Bitter- We are truly living in changing times- changing environment, changing politics, a pandemic- this story is sure to resonate with young teens! A riveting sequel to Akwaeke Emezi’s bestseller Novel, Pet, Bitter truly examines what it means to be a revolutionary when you are young. Rising from impoverished surroundings, Bitter, our protagonist, gets accepted at a prestigious art school. But amidst volatile civil surroundings and violent protests, Bitter must reconcile her passion for the arts with her fight against injustice, making this truly a new YA book to look out for! 

All My Rage- Another masterpiece from Sabaa Tabir, who is reeling off her success from An Ember in the Ashes series comes another literary gem called All My Rage. It is truly an intriguing new YA book as your teen will surely resonate with the book’s theme. It follows the modern path of friendship and family at this age from a teenager’s perspective. It also switches between timelines and focuses on Cloud’s Rest Motel which was opened in the US by immigrants from Pakistan. It follows the struggle of Sal as he struggles to keep the inn open at the brink of its closure. It also follows Sal’s best friend Noor who has collected enough money to leave her abusive family behind, but Sal and Noor get into an argument that might decide their fates!
