Are We There Yet 5 Road trip Games To Keep Kids From Asking That Question

After days cooped up inside, you and the fam are so ready for your vacation! So you book a homestay, grab the kids, and get ready for a road trip, which is all great fun…. until you feel the kids’ attention wearing off, and the crankies starting to hit.

So when you run out of snacks to distract them, introduce one of these super fun games to play with kids to keep them entertained!

Atlas

This ever fun game calls for recalling geography lessons! The rules of Atlas are simple – the person who starts names a country starting with the letter ‘A’. The next person then names a country which begins with the last letter of the previous person’s country. So if the first person said “Afghanistan”, the next person will have to come up with a country whose name begins with the letter ‘N’, and so on. You can’t repeat countries’ names, and no cheating! To pack in a bit of fun learning, challenge the kids to say a bit about each country.

Name, Place, Animal, Thing

A staple school ground game, Name, Place, Animal, Thing is a fairly simple one that the kids are going to get addicted to! You can either play in teams, or as individuals. One person says to the other – “start!” and that person has to mentally recite the alphabet at whatever pace they choose to. When the other person says, “Stop!”, the alphabet which the player stops at becomes the chosen alphabet for this round. Each player or team has to come up with a person’s name, a Country/State/City/Town, an animal, and an object, each starting with the alphabet for the round. This is a fast paced game, with everyone being as quick as they can; and a fun way to pass time on the highway!

Memory Game

In the Memory Game, a player selects a topic. This could be anything, like “fruits”, or “board games”, or “magazines”. The player who starts says one thing that fits into the selected category. For example, “banana”. The next player will have to say “banana, apple”. The next player adds on, “banana, apple, orange”, and the next player says, “banana, apple, orange, guava…” and this goes on till someone messes up the sequence, or runs out of things to add!

20 Questions

20 Questions is an enjoyable game that will get everyone in the car to put their thinking caps on! A player picks a personality and declares their gender, and whether they are dead or alive. The other players have to ask questions, which can only be answered with “Yes” or “No”, and use their powers of deduction to try and guess the personality.

Word Association

Challenge the kids’ vocabulary, communications skills, and memory, and make them think quickly with the Word Association game. This fun game packs in a learning activity for the kids.

The rules are straightforward – one person says a word, for example “water’, and the next player has to say a word they associate with that, like “glass”, and then the next player says a word they associate with that, like “window”, and so on. To make this game even more fun, add a restriction, like – your word cannot start with the letter “S”, or – your word cannot be a food item. With a different restriction for each round, kids can keep this game going for hours at an end!

These are the 5 Best Road Trip Games must try.
