Bored Teen In The House? 6 Things Your 15-Year-Old Will Love!

The pandemic has forced parents all over the world to discover creative ideas to engage and stimulate their teenagers. Teens are at a very crucial age in their lives where they are figuring out different aspects of their identity and getting used to their changing bodies. With the rise of social media, kids often resort to scrolling on their social media for hours for leisure time. These activities will keep them away from the screens:

Scavenger Hunt- Teens love a mystery! When looking for things to do for 15-year-olds,  make things interesting around the house by designing a scavenger hunt for your teens.  You can also amp things up by designing an escape room within the home. An escape room is when participants are locked inside a room, and to get out, they have to find a key which they’ll get to, only after solving clues.  You can also make themes out of it like you can make the clues surrounding fantasy or their favorite comic books, or, for your math geeks, you can probably get some math problems off the internet and use that to make clues. For decor, you can get streamers or banners embossed in the theme colors or logo. Choose particular trivia questions or facts as hints to get the key. This activity is sure to keep them engaged and pumped throughout the evening, just make sure you stock up on snacks and drinks as fuel for your teens hard at work!

Learn Some New Skills-  When thinking about things to do for 15-year-olds, think about gaining new skills.  In an exceedingly competitive age, upskilling your teen from a young age will help gain a competitive advantage in the future. Enroll them in a class to learn new languages, you can also try it at home through language learning apps like Duolingo. You can also get your teen certified to provide first aid, by enrolling them in a first aid course. This is quite necessary and an important skill to have. You can also take this time to teach your kids some important financial lessons, and encourage them to plan a budget for their expenses to test their financial reasoning skills. 

Gardening- Gardening is a great activity for your teens. Not only does it encourage them to get out and work with their hands, but it also connects them with nature and makes them feel proud of their accomplishments. Gardening is also a great tool for self-development as your teens get to hold and feel proud of something that they have grown on their own. Start small by keeping some house plants at home, and then start encouraging them to grow produce or flowers in your backyard or kitchen garden! It is a great hands-on thing to do for 15-year-olds. 

Volunteer- The pandemic has revealed the gaping holes in our realities and it is essential that we sensitize our teens towards the vulnerabilities of people who can’t afford the essentials that we take for granted. Teens are at an age when they are forming their identity and it is imperative that we include empathy and compassion at this crucial stage so teens can be truly grateful for what they have. It does not have to be just about other people, your teen can also make a difference by caring for the environment and the animals by volunteering at the local animal shelter or clean-up drive. It is one of the most impactful things to do for 15-year-olds. 

Cook Up Some Fun- Have a fussy eater? Teens often are very picky with their food and only show an affinity for certain foods. Get them to get their hands dirty in the kitchen.  Cooking an entire meal is one of the most important skills and is an engaging thing to do for a 15-year-olds. You can decide the theme or the cuisine and your kid will have to cook up a meal, simple or fancy, under a certain time limit. You can even mimic your favorite Masterchef shows, where they work under a time limit! Make sure that your teen takes appropriate precautions while using the stove or sharp objects. Getting them to cook makes your teen truly appreciate the hard work and effort that goes behind getting a proper meal on the table. 

Tie and Dye- Make trendy clothes at home! Your 15-year-old will love this activity. Jazz up your old white T-shirts into something colorful and trendy by trying this simple technique. Twist and tie the shirts, secure with rubber bands, and use dyes of your choice. Let the twisted colors sit in the dyes for 6-8 hours, and then unwrap it, giving it a wash before you try it on. There you have it, your own trendy clothes made at home!  Making trendy clothes at home is surely a great activity for 15-year-olds to do at home!
